TouchStrokes enters key strokes into any standard Macintosh application running on Mac OS X (10.1.3 and newer), including applications running in Classic Mode and applications running natively on Mac OS9. Therefore, TouchStrokes can be used with any application running on Mac OS9 or OSX. TouchStrokes can also be used to send text into a (Unix) terminal session. Anyone interested in accessing a Macintosh computer without using a standard desktop keyboard can install TouchStrokes and enter text using a touch screen overlay, digitizing tablet or other mouse emulator.

TouchStrokes has five keyboard layouts to choose from. These layouts are interactively resizable and many aspects of layout appearance can be changed. However, if the application requires the layouts to be configured and fixed they may be locked using the Kiosk operating mode. This feature is password protected and allows many TouchStrokes features to be tuned for a specific application. By locking the configuration a developer can minimize user confusion and increase productivity by making the interface consistent and appropriate for the task.
